| | Dear Parents and Students,
It's a pleasure to welcome you all to a new year at Notre Dame Middle school. - Our school theme is J.U.M.P with Joy - we'll be discovering how that will unfold in our work through the year.
- The art classes will explore history and world cultures through art.
- We'll gain a better understanding of art processes and techniques and the discover the best way to use our tools and our talents.
- It is my hope that while we work we'll begin The Practice of the Presence of God, as modeled by Brother Laurence.
- As a result, I hope we will find JOY in what we do as we do it for the Glory of God.
Once again, you can expect two all school art exhibits, one the same night as the Christmas concert and a second on the night of the Spring concert.
We will give you progress reports through the year and post examples of the work the students are producing as often as we can. You're welcome to drop in anytime to see what we are doing. And, volunteers are always welcome.
| | | • Views from the Art Room Visit our art gallery. I'll do everything I can to keep it up to date. Right now, it's exhibiting work from last year for both the Elementary and the Middle schools. As the year unfolds, you should be able to See work in progress. Check our displays any time by clicking on the link above.
| | | • Assignments Student sketchbooks are an integral tool in all MS art classes. Most assignments should be in these sketchbooks unless otherwise instructed. Students are expected to make as many unsolicited entries in their sketchbooks as possible. These should be: idea generations, notes, thumbnail sketches, and high quality drawings. You will find assignments posted regularly on this page. Just click the Assignments link above to find a current listing of assignments and expected completion dates. Whenever possible resources will be cited with the assignments. Consider all notes to be copyrighted material and not intended for reproduction. At times notes and art history references will be included and a link provided when the assignment is initially given. Students are expected to check regularly for initial assignments and for any updates that may be noted in class. Students will have reading, writing and research assignments. All students are responsible to stay up-to-date with each assignment because information is cumulative and each instruction builds on the foundation of the previous step. | | | • Sketchbooks Student's are an integral part of all MS art classes. Students should have sketchbooks with them at all times. Students need to look at these books like explorer's or scientist's notebooks. All plans and ideas need to be recorded in the sketchbooks. Additions to sketchbook are reviewed. We are looking for a chain of thought in the creative process. Often the notes are random, even whimsical. It is strongly suggested that students date their entries. It's possible that some sketchbooks will deteriorate during the school year. We suggest that they be placed in a folder or large plastic bag so that pages stay together. | | | • Grades Grades are based on completion of assignments, sketchbook, quality of work, test results and general "try-it" attitude. Plus (+) grades can be earned only with work that exceeds assignments.
| | | • Art History | | | • Presentations
| | | Presentations to students in class. Often contains copyrighted materials and is not intended for reproduction. Useful for notes and vocabulary. Also good reference for test material.
| | | • Notes
| | | Notes provide additional information to presentations and demonstrations seen in the MS classroom. You will find an accumulation of information presented to students over time. Going forward, these notes will be dated.
| | | • Safety | | | | | | Parents/Students: As staff, we try to keep our web pages updated, but due to our busy schedules, it is not always possible to get to it every day. At the very least, we will always do our best to provide helpful information to you regularly.
Here's to an exciting and joy-filled year. Blessings, Mrs. Dunkel |
